The widget can display prepared caption text while a supported video plays. This gives visitors an additional way to follow spoken information, including when they prefer to keep the sound low or off.
In the backoffice, this capability may be called Video Transcription and marked as beta. The visitor behaviour described here is timed caption display for supported page videos.
Watch with available captions
- Open the page containing the video and allow it to load.
- Start the video using its normal player controls.
- Read the widget's caption text as playback progresses.
- Pause the video when you need more time to follow the material.
Caption display is connected to video playback. The standard widget panel does not provide a separate general caption-toggle button for this capability.
Where the captions come from
The website team must prepare caption data and enable the feature. The widget retrieves that data and matches it to a supported video on the current page.
Starting playback does not transcribe the video's sound live. A video without matching prepared captions will not gain captions merely because the widget is installed.
Timing and display
The widget selects caption text according to the video's current playback time and displays it in its caption area. Captions may change as playback reaches the next prepared segment.
If there is no caption segment for a particular time, no text may appear for that interval. Caption quality and timing depend on the prepared material.
For example, a short product demonstration can show the prepared explanation alongside each corresponding part of the video. This is useful only if the text remains synchronized and reflects the actual speech.
Supported media and limits
This workflow applies to videos that the widget can detect as video elements on the page and match to caption data. Do not assume the same behaviour for a third-party embedded player, a live stream, an audio-only file, or a video inside another document.
A video's own subtitle controls may be separate from the widget. A full transcript offered elsewhere on the website is also a different way of accessing the content.
If captions do not appear
Check whether the video has its own subtitle option. If widget captions are expected, tell the website team which page and video you used.
Website owners should verify that captions are prepared, the source video matches, and timing works after seeking or changing playback position. Replacing a video can require an update to its associated caption data.
