Easy Language lets visitors read prepared simplified wording within the existing page. It is useful when the wording of a passage is difficult, rather than only its font or layout.

The setting uses alternative content prepared for that page. Enabling it does not generate a new simplification immediately in the visitor's browser.

Show simplified text

  1. Open the widget and expand Settings.
  2. Select Easy Language.
  3. Wait for the prepared content to load.
  4. Read the passages that have been replaced by their simplified versions.

The backoffice may describe this visitor setting as Text Simplification. Visitors should follow the label shown in their widget.

What changes

Supported passages are replaced in the page while the original wording is retained for restoration. Other page areas may stay unchanged if no matching simplified content exists.

For example, a prepared alternative to “Please retain your confirmation for subsequent correspondence” might read “Keep your confirmation. You may need it when you contact us.” This is an illustration of simpler wording, not a promise that the widget will generate that exact text.

The quality and coverage of the result depend on the alternatives prepared for the website.

Return to the original wording

Select Easy Language again to turn it off. The feature restores the original text it replaced.

Use the original version when you need to compare an exact term, reference number, or detailed formulation. Simplification should preserve meaning, but important alternative content still needs editorial review by the website team.

Setting and profile

The Easy Language setting applies the prepared text alternatives. The Easy Language profile activates that setting together with a modest font-size increase.

A profile does not create missing simplified content. You can use the setting on its own if you prefer your existing text size.

Compare the other reading options

  • Easy Language changes matching text within the current page.
  • Plain Language opens a separate panel containing a prepared alternative version.
  • Simplified Page extracts page content into a reduced layout without being a language-rewriting tool.

If nothing changes

The feature may be enabled before alternatives are available for the current page. Some passages may also no longer match after the website's original text changes.

Website owners should check both feature configuration and prepared content for the exact page. See Reading the Plain Language Version and Reading in Simplified Page View for the other options.
