Magnifying Glass displays an enlarged version of the word under the pointer. It can help visitors inspect a difficult word without enlarging all text on the page.
The tool is designed for pointer use. It is hidden in the default mobile widget interface.
Activate magnification
- Open the widget.
- Expand Helper.
- Select Magnifying Glass.
- Move the pointer over a word in supported page text.
An enlarged word appears near the pointer. Moving to another word updates the display. Clicking supported text can also show the word at the pointer position.
What the tool magnifies
Magnification works with words in supported text elements, such as paragraphs, headings, and list items. It depends on the browser being able to identify the word at the pointer position.
It does not provide a zoomed picture of every object under the pointer. Text embedded in an image, a video frame, or an inaccessible embedded document is different from ordinary page text.
Move directly over the letters if the display does not appear. Blank space between words or an unsupported element may produce no result.
Example
When reading a service description, a visitor may be comfortable with most text but struggle to distinguish one long word. They can point to that word, read the enlarged version, and continue without changing the paragraph layout.
If every line is too small, increasing Font Size is usually more convenient than moving the magnifier word by word.
Choose the right enlargement method
- Magnifying Glass enlarges the word at the pointer.
- Font Size changes supported text across the page.
- Browser zoom enlarges the wider browser presentation, including more than text.
These approaches serve different situations. A modest text-size increase may also be used alongside occasional word magnification.
Turn it off
Open the widget and select Magnifying Glass again. Turning the tool off removes its magnified-word display.
If it is unavailable, the website owner may have disabled the tool or the current device may use the mobile interface. See Adjusting Text for Comfortable Reading for an alternative.
